Some development crap of me and others.

./About me

My name is Alex Janssen and I live in The Netherlands. In my normal life, I make money as an ERP consultant/develloper by one of the largest software companies in this country. Mostly I devellop end-user environments for our clients which are hospitals for most of them :). The end-user layers I devellop are known as BI platforms (Business Intelligence) and are made with the tools from Cognos. The other part of my work is to help out the administrators to keep the servers (RedHat) going. Which I love to do.

After my work I have different interests. One of them is being a bully on the internet, disliking propietary source. The other thing is Gnu/Linux of course. Once I started with Linux with Redhat 6, I used Mandrake 7, Slackware 8, Debian, RedHat 7 till RedHat 9 and Mandrake 8 recently uptill Mandrake 9.1. Unices I've worked with are: BSD, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and SCO. Offtopic: I worked with most Win32 systems as well :(

When I was a kid, I always wanted to enhance things to the way I like. Maybe that's why I ended up with Gnu/Linux. I love configuring unix based machines in CLI (commandline interface) and in the GUI (you always need a good workstation) Servers or services are fun to config. That's why I configured HTTP Apache, postfix MTA, firewalls, NAT, IDS's, monitoring shellscripts and Mysql backends on most of my machines.

Other things I like to do, is being up2date with the newest security flaws on all platforms. Security is a must have when you are 24/7 on the internet. That's why I like to secure things.
Another thing I'm always busy with, is OpenStandards and the OpenSource community. I help/advice people with Gnu/Linux OpenSource Software (OSS) and sometimes I write software myself or I translate applications to the Dutch language. Some things to keep myself busy with.
